Who remembers the “The Lung Thing”? (for those who are new or who don’t remember and want to know, it starts here, then here and finally here.) Guess what! You will never guess, ‘cause you totally can’t figure it out from the title and the first sentence.
It’s back.
Back is the wrong word. More accurately it is “bigger” (by 2 millimeters over the last 14 months) and is now “hollow”.
…
There are three running theories, all doctor approved as being “Just as likely as anything else. This thing is weird.”
Theory Number 1 – courtesy of my daughter: A portal to another dimension. When it opens demon Platipi and Giraffe hordes will come pouring through to take over the universe. Everyone practice bowing to your new overloads, they are on their way.
Theory Number 2 – resulting from conversations with far too little sleep: The re-creation of the universe is currently taking place on a micro scale. The expanding (and hollow) can be explained by the simple fact that universes expand. It is a property of universes and the systems within them. The real worry is the developing life somewhere on a planet within this new universe … there is every possibility of demon Platipi. (It is possible demon Platipi are spoken of far too often in this house)
Theory Number 3 – the slightly more rational, but not necessarily more plausible: At some point I had some sort of respiratory infection, most likely a specific type of nasty lung fungus that is not uncommon in Florida. It was either isolated within my lung or left a scar and is now being dealt with, finally, by my immune system.
So, on Monday at far-too-damn-early-o’clock, I am off to the hospital where the subject of this post will take place. I am not yet sure (and I have had since Tuesday) how I feel about this. Images of a Kate-kabob are coming to mind, not at all helped by mentions of deflating balloons rocketing around operating rooms. Admittedly, I kind of think the balloon thing would be fun and I am a little disappointed it is completely not possible because lungs just aren’t built that way .
Mostly, I think I am just tired of being poked by needles … and there are a lot more needles in my future.
