I have figured out what the two teams (familes, whatever) are competing for in this challenge. See that smaller block right in the middle of town? That entire block will be converted to parks (or other appropriate community lots based on the interests of the founders) named after the family and the founders.
Should be fun to build.
That being said, the Murphy clan finished out last week with one household and having unlocked utilities (sim multiplier = 2 at this point) giving them a total of 4 population.

Amethyst rolls a lot of wants for skill points or to study parenting. She's actually pretty easy to keep happy.

Braden is also easy to keep happy when he does things like get aspiration points for dropping everything he was supposed to be doing and running outside to greet the town drunk (whom I will not be dealing with when I deal with the townies. She annoys me enough to be entertaining. I may do something about the crotch revealing outfit though ... )

Getting closer to having enough for his robotics station.

Amethyst finds the couch more comfortable than the bed.

Naked spaghetti eating ... Notice how Braden seems to be intentionally not noticing ...

And the food shortage continues.

Second baby bump .. I missed the first.

Almost enough!

But they needed food more :( Seriously, 8 tiles is NOT enough.

Oh come on. the red is not THAT bad!

YAY! Robotics station!

Huh, robots are made the same way as toys only pounding with a wrench and screwdriver instead of a hammer.

Braden and I both missed Preston's birth.

He was pretty happy about it when he finally noticed though!

WTH is with my sims and getting knocked up at 8:05?

Braden proved to be a surprisingly good dad.

And autonomously likes to make toys. I like when they like their careers.

More baby bumps.

This is not as shady as it looks, merely the delivery of some toy robots for selling in Rosica's store.

Okay, maybe it is as shady as it looks, or they both just really like toy robots.

Look I remembered!

Preston gets the first actual birthday cake in the hood! I almost feel like he should get an award of some kind for this.

And the toss.

And life is apparently a very formal occasion for Preston.

Teaching to walk ...

Which promptly got interrupted by the need for potty training.

I take it back, Braden is not a good dad. You do not lecture the toddler for breaking the robot!

Just fix the damn thing and leave the kid alone.

Amethyst goes into labour in the middle of a random puddle that shouldn't be there.

And this is Melanie. The first girl born in the hood! Yay!

Look! I do have sims that know how to put their toddlers to bed!
It is monday morning now though meaning the Murphy family finishes out this round with a population of 8.
