Someone talk me into this!
Mar. 19th, 2011 03:06 pmK, so I seem to be physically incapable of starting the game.
The game is working fine, no issues there (except the minor jump bug if I try to use a certain fountain but that is a file that has been in my DL folder since ... umm ... 3 computers ago? It is entirely possible it is corrupted from all the transferring and just needs to be replaced. I'll get to it.). The issues are:
1) The train wreck. Which is not even really an issue. I mean really? People have to expect weird from me by now right? I'm okay with that. IT has a few technical aspects from the visual standpoint I haven't worked out yet, but I will. So while I am not jumping for joy and going "Yay! Totally fucked up scene!" it still isn't really an issue.
2) This is the big one. As soon as I get this chapter finished my motherboard is being replaced. Should be a good thing right?
137 sims need backing up. Complete with stats and CC lists.
63 lots need backing up. Complete with CC lists.
29 gigs of writing snippets and images need to be backed up and that isn't even touching the main folder I store my images in.
My downloads folder is now up over 19 gigs and yes, that is compressorized. That also needs to be backed up. More importantly though, it needs to be cleaned out!
Then there are all the PSD's and other assorted files for all the things I have recoloured at some point and will probably need to tweak again later (you have no idea how often that happens).
After all of that is done? The game needs to be reinstalled. It all needs to be put back and I REALLY don't want to recreate 137 sims! *sob*
Oh, and I should probably mention that is just for the one user account. I have 2 more I actively use as well. :(
So really, someone talk me into this. Tell me the month of rebuilding is going to be worth it. Also if you know a way to move custom lots from one game to another that doesn't require extracting them all (they never extract with all the CC in place!) I will love you forever and ever!

Date: 2011-03-19 10:12 pm (UTC)Personally, I'd just make a copy of my downloads folder (and whoa! 19GB beats mine - I'm at 10GB) and my hood folder and then put them into my fresh installation once I had everything all sorted out, post-motherboard. In fact, that's what I did do when I got a new computer. I picked up right where I left off.
And it will be worth it.

Date: 2011-03-19 10:17 pm (UTC)Really, my game is about to turn into a BFB. Kind of surprised it hasn't happened yet. Time to start again.

Date: 2011-03-19 10:20 pm (UTC)How are you planning to back up your Sims so you can recreate them? I ask because when I've extracted Sims in SimPE and put them back into the game, they look right (as in, all CC in tact) as long as I've got all the same CC in my game. So if you back up your downloads folder and put it back in (maybe minus the glitchy fountain), you should be able to skip the CC lists for the Sims.

Date: 2011-03-19 10:27 pm (UTC)I wonder if it is possible to do the same with the lots? It should be shouldn't it? Hmmm. If I copy them to the lot bin I should be able to just save that folder shouldn't I? Must look into that.
