Rare Flying Turtle!
Actually, the quail hatched today. This is one of them working its way out of the shell. In the egg next to it you can see the beak of the one that would soon be joining it as it picks its way out as well.
The first three to hatch as seen through the very fuzzy (humidity) incubator window. Purple thing is their snuggly. It is a knitted bit of Feather Yarn. Really fuzzy. They love it.
Same three about to be transferred to the brooder. The one is still a bit damp and shouldn't be going yet, but things were getting awfully crowded in there!
How tiny are the little fuzzy butts in this handful?
About that big!
Yes, my hand is kind of red and puffy. I burned it yesterday. You should see the wonderful mess that is the junction of my thumb and palm. That is what happens when you reach into the oven to pull out the baking dish and it doesn't occur to you that dish is going to be hot because you can't feel the heat. (Totally a braindead moment.)
No, I can't feel the burn either.
This is chick #2 all dried off and the egg it hatched from.
Hands are comfortable.
Of the 15 eggs (out of 20) that proved viable. 12 have hatched so far ,,, oh, make that 13 (so says Mathew with his nose pressed to the incubator window. Remind me to tell you about the quail-napping that happened earlier .. he says it was all their fault .. *eyeroll* It was totally his because not even he is immune to the cute).
Yes, I can almost get back to writing now! lol
