It is virtual Science Fair time again and my daughter has just declared her project.

"To study the effects of adding a simple kelp meal supplement to the diet of Coturnix Quail measuring growth, production weight, egg production and over all vigor through at least three (3) generations."

Seriously.

My little nerd is growing so fast!

I am. Incredibly, ridiculously even. When she asked if she could get some of the quail eggs for the project I was expecting life cycle or ways of preserving (she is huge into chemistry) but this? I can honestly say I have never been happier to hand several hundred dollars worth of equipment over to a 10 year old!

I want to do this as an experiment! Only using real quail, because quail are awesome.

They are awesome! And way more friendly and easy to care for than most would imagine. I don't remember where you moved to, but I am sure there are sources near you. The number of "backyard" quail keepers in North America is staggering.

That is way more original than trying to figure out how the dinosaurs died. I'm jealous XD.

Or trying to figure out what kind of light makes plants grow fast, Amo - that was the ONLY thing we ever did every single damn year. I'm surprised we didn't flunk XD

You got to play with plants? Now I'm jealous. Ours was nutrition. Every. Damn. Year. And do not, ever, deviate from what the text book says. No no no, that way lies a failing grade even if you happen to be one of the people who can't eat grains! The book says you need them therefor that is what you must preach!!!!

Okay, better now. Only still packing a few scars.

Are you shittin me? I HATED IT! >_< I thought it was the most boring and most useless thing in the world XD

What sci project could you do using nutrition?

*pats* There there ^^;;;;

Mostly people ended up doing things like "how long do you have to walk at what speed to burn off the calories in a burger" and "Which lettuce keeps longer in the fridge". I think the most creative was trying to work out which "week long diet" made you feel worse one of "healthy" foods or one that consisted of "junk" foods with the same number of calories. I completely threw off the results for that one. Pasta and whole grain cereals where counted in the "healthy" while whole fat cheeses, tortilla and potato chips and peperoni sticks were "junk". I spent the "junk" week bouncing with more energy than a chipmunk on crack. Remove the chips, toss in veggies and fruit and the "junk" is what I live on because grains in all forms bloody hurt!

You're allergic to grains? D: Eww...I'm sorry. Of course my poor little 4 year old cousin his allergies seem to vary every time he goes to the doctor so I have no idea what the heck he's allergic to right now

See I think the difference there is that we were stuck in public school which is pretty much the tool used to churn out mediocrity. She isn't and it shows. The little shit already has a professional biography. I didn't even know research biographies existed when I was 10!

That's fascinating. I've never ever heard of a online science fair. I wish her luck :D She enjoys science eh? Probably more than I did >> <<;

She loves science. Probably too curious for her own good with a mother far more encouraging than is probably healthy. I am perfectly okay with her growing random cultures in the spare incubator and finding out what happens when she mixes weird stuff with scary names together.

At least she is fluent with bio-security and chemical safety procedures and nothing has exploded ... yet.

Haha ^_^ Well as long as it's something you have in common I'm sure it's safe ^~*
