Can I just start this off by saying you guys rock? Really. Thank you everyone who jumped in to help my daughter with her homework. Part of the issue with the question is not only is the book on the older side, but her school is based out of a major city 130km away. Most of the other children are "city kids" where I am told some stores do still have the option of something other than plastic or fabric bags. Learn something every day!
Also, because I am a dork, I found the responses fascinating.
And speaking of being a dork ...
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan! Check this out:
"In PET, a special type of sugar is combined with a safe radioactive component to produce the radioactive tracer called FDG (Fluorodeoxyglucose). Once injected into a vein, the tracer, which emits signals detected by the scanner, will be absorbed by malignant cells but will not be absorbed by benign cells and scar tissue. This will indicate whether or not a lesion could be cancerous." from BCCA
How cool is that? Tracers. Seriously, how often does the average person hear that (or more specifically get to say that) in everyday conversation? I should probably not find this as awesome as I do, but seriously. For a very brief time I am going to have radioactive tracers in my blood.
Why?
Well, it seems they were not as sure as they first thought they were that the sample they took from "the thing" was actually from "the thing" and since my lung tried to drown me in my own blood while they were getting that sample of questionable origin, trying for another one has been completely ruled out and the whole removing it surgically issue still needs to be addressed only the surgeon says "No go without completely opening up the lung" at which point I kind of went "Wait, hold on, we still don't even know if we have to remove this thing and now you are talking rib spreaders?!"
He wasn't big on that idea either.
So I get a couple rounds with radioactive tracers over the next few months.
On the sims front, my game remains borken. I will admit I haven't tried very hard to fix it yet. A few minutes here and there but not anything serious. It is a lot of drudgery I don't feel up to at the moment. Which I suppose means all my sims stories are on hold indefinitely. :(
I have been writing though. Got a new, easier to type on when your hands don't want to cooperate keyboard and everything. I have been working on that story I mentioned awhile ago that has been floating around my head for years and years. I am not sure yet if I will be sharing it. I don't think it is that good and I have discovered I have something of a complex about sharing what I write without images there to tell half the story for me. Didn't realize how dependent on the visuals I was until I thought about sharing this story.
Probably means I should share it for feedback sake doesn't it? Get a feel for what my writing alone is lacking. Ugh. That is an intimidating prospect.
And that is it in a nutshell (Brazil nut if anyone was curious, simply because they are awesome).

Date: 2012-04-03 11:00 am (UTC)That might sound cool, but I wish they'd give you a definite answer about just what the hell is going on in your lungs hon D: That's what I hate most about doctor's - too much damned pussyfooting around.
Yes you should share your story. n_n Not everything needs visuals. Let people make their own. How do you think people existed w entertainment before television? :p LOL j/k But I'd definitely be interested in reading so please? :D
I'm sorry your computer's been uncooperative for you though. Heard people bitchin the other day about the newest update for Sims3 being as large as the damn game itself. I'm glad I'm not into it if it's got that much trouble to it :p
Be well :D

Date: 2012-04-05 06:50 am (UTC)I am not all that worried about the diagnosis. "The Thing" is hollow. I have seen the scans and done the research. Hollow cancer doesn't happen very often. Mostly I am going through the motions and letting them run their tests because really, what else am I going to do? When I get tired of being a pincushion again they will hear about it. Funny thing is, when I finally say "Enough! Next person that comes near me with a needle gets it shoved in the nearest sensitive body part I can reach!" is usually when they come up with a definitive diagnosis.
Being a bitch is apparently good motivation *shrug*

Date: 2012-04-03 04:00 pm (UTC)How far away from you is your daughter's school? It sounds like it's a satellite school? But wouldn't it still be pretty far?
And best of luck with your foray into biophysics!

Date: 2012-04-05 07:07 am (UTC)I might take you up on the beta offer once I get this more completed. I have learned my stories have a tendency to evolve as I write them and where it ultimately ends up will be different than where it started. This is good but problematic when it requires updating the beginning as well.

"You two are nasty. Did you insert Basil in it? Oh god, I need to shut up now"

Date: 2012-04-05 07:11 am (UTC)He didn't believe me when I said nothing, he's just that predictable.
As for this story, this is the one I wanted your input on. I have three routes I can go with it, but only two that really make sense to me and both of them require some creative brainstorming. My brainstorming can take a "makes sense" and turn it into "Completely out there, not even in the realm of possibility if the world ran backward." Plus, language issues, namely I might need to at least hint at one which is not English.
AMO HELP!
