In my continuing quest to scare the hell out of my child cinematically (this may be a new word), I need help.

Movies we have tried so far:

Wishmaster (which is what started this whole thing)
Child's Play
The Others (is this actually supposed to be a scary movie?)
Flatliners
Dawn of the dead (both versions)
Pet Semetary (she laughed through it and still wanders around going " hehehehe NOM!")
28 Days Later
28 Weeks Later (she wants them to make 28 years later because and I quote "it might be more entertaining if the whole cast is dancing skeletons")
Arachnophobia (she actually jumped at this one but only when the giant spider lept out of the pipe the rest of it was apparently giggle worthy)

There were more, that I can't remember but as you can see the usual suspects aren't going to cut it with this child.

Help me out here? What is the scariest movie you have ever seen? I am talking jumped out of your seat had to go turn the lights, carry a weapon, afraid to be alone for days scared, I don't think just hiding behind a pillow is going to work.

Any asian horror movie.

Slept with the light on for a month and didn't even actually sleep through the night after watching one called The Reunion or the class reunion on netflix once. Like an idiot I watched the asian version of the Grudge right after I could finally sleep again.

Failed every test I had within those two months because of my lack of sleep.

Seconded on the any Asian horror movie. They prey more on psychological/subtle horror, less jump-scares and more building of super deep creepy feelings that stay with you afterwards, warping everyday things into stuff you never want to see again (Ju-On will also ruin the "you're safe under the covers" feeling FOREVER). Some of them will have really strange cultural things that don't quite get across (and then often become unintentionally funny because of it), but several of the American remakes are also fairly good at the same type of lingering horror (The Ring and The Grudge do pretty good jobs being really creepy).

I don't know how old your daughter is but she might just be at an age where scary things are cool to laugh at! I know none of my friends thought any horror movie was scary from ages about 13 to 16.

Also the REC series (the Spanish ones, definitely not the awful American remakes) are pretty scary. They're zombie-themed/"found footage" films but there's some REALLY creepy scenes in both of the ones currently out.

Any older horror movie. The birds, the exorcist, those kind of movies are the kind that leave an impression I think, Anything psychological really.

Se7en still scares the crap out of me, but then again, so does Arachnophobia.
When I was younger I didn't sleep for days after seeing Robocop... still can't see anything that resembles that, héhé

Yep, I concur on the asian horror movies and try saw, freddy and jason movies. Freddy and Jason are about the only horror films I can actually stomach :s Also, try Species! That scared the shit out of me and um...Starship Troopers - the first one. The others are crap.

I can't say that horror movies are scary, and I never had problems with them. Although I've gotten strange feeling when I had read manga "The Ring" (but I think it was rather a thrill).

I've watched many films, that my friends or Mom thinks are scary, but I was only interested in them. Exception are scenes when something unexpectedly jumps on the main character (like zombie dog in 'Resident Evil').

(For me rather 'The Bold And The Beauty' is a horror - I can't stand soap operas ;) ).

I have a feeling she, like I am, is a lot like this but I am going to try anyway.

And thank you for reminding me of Resident Evil. That dog was one of the few times I have ever jumped as well. Might need to track down that game. :D

Yep, Asian movies tend to be the best imo too, but dunno if they are easy to find translated (or even recommendable, because translations can be awful sometimes) or how your daughter would handle reading subtitles. My daughter has always liked horror movies a lot, even since very young, and asian movies are probably her favorites (mine too)

Ok, I must be the only one that doesn't find asian horror movies to be all that scary. I'm trying to think of scary movies, but I'm coming up with nothing. I do remember Brian being a bit creeped out by one of the Paranormal Activity movies. The third one, I think. But, we weren't scared per se'. I think it's cause we've watched a lot of ghost hunter type shows.

Not scared exactly but I found Wolf Creek really disturbing in a haunt my dreams kind of a way. The whole film just racks up the tension all the way through and makes for very uncomfortable viewing, for me at any rate.
