I got a question earlier today from someone who managed to nab me on steam in-between sessions of screwing around in the WFTO beta (Which, I have to say it ... OMG!!! Squeee!!!! And it is not even functional yet) and playing RBPV. The question was (I am paraphrasing, they were way more considerate than I this) "You are doing that BACC, which is okay, but it is not Pleasantries. Is Pleasantries dead?"
This is not the first time I have been asked similar questions. Let me say, very clearly, Pleasantries is not dead. Pleasantries is so far from dead I still wake up in the middle of the night and scribble barely readable notes on random bits of paper (and that one time on the side of a box on the bedside table) so I won't forget parts of the story I have just worked out while sleeping. That being said I can't say that continuing the story doesn't scare the hell out of me. I haven't posed a scene since December of 2011. That is a long time and I have forgotten so much. I also have all the sets to rebuild and the sims to recreate still and that part is about as opposite of fun as it is possible to be and that is why I am doing this BACC. I am using it to put some fun into all the rebuilds I need to do.
At some point some very familiar faces are going to start popping up in Pleasantview and eventually (I have it planned already) there will come a point when RBPV jumps directly into the next Pleasantries update with pics. This is part of why I am playing through this BACC as fast as I can. I want to get back to the story, I just don't want the days of rebuilding to burn me out before I get there.
The posing is still an issue all it's own, but that shadow of a plot which has worked it's way into RBVP (I know it is still not obvious yet, but it is there) has helped with that as well. So far the plot has just been following along with things that happened in regular game play. Not surprising since this story suggested itself from events which happened in the regular course of game play, but yesterday I found I would need to actually stage a couple of pics. Just a few mind you, this story is very much secondary to everything else that is going on. So I went ahead and downloaded a couple of pose boxes (only a couple though, I have no intention of having the 200+ I used to have ever again!) and then spent several hours setting up the scene because I have forgotten so much and eventually I ended up with a short sequence I am happy with.
The last part of that last sentence is the huge bit. I have been terrified, knowing I have forgotten tons and knowing I will have to relearn it all, that I will not be able to take images (fewer than in the past perhaps, but that only served to make the fear worse. Fewer = must have more impact in the world according to Kate) which measure up to my self imposed standards.
Did I manage?
I think I did. :)
Of course (This would be the GRRRRRRR!!! part) I also discovered when I went to check the first image for this sequence for lighting, etc., etc. before I carried on with the rest of it that Fraps had stopped responding. My own fault. I was fiddling around in task manager and closed down a process etc., etc., I know better, blah, blah ... Point is, I had missed like an entire day in the Harrell house and this day included Birthdays and a trip to the toy store where a certain simself (*cough* Amo! *cough*) was behaving rather badly in a very amusing way.
It is the little things that annoy me. A year and a half ago I would have remembered to restart Fraps. That is what this is all about though. relearning the things I used to do without thinking so I can get back to what I really want to be doing and that is finishing Pleasantries.
